1986 – LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back… 2nd Last in the Mixtape Series

Ah, 1986.. I was 16 years old and in year 10 in high school.. Yay… Right?

Actually, No..

I remember the last day of High School, walking home early with my best friend Rebecca (next door neighbor) singing “No more school, No more Books, No more Teachers Dirty Looks” and when i got home, i went swimming, ah, life was great…

A few days later it dawned on me.. Shit, I have to get a job.

And so started my working career. I got my first job at Venture. It was kinda like a K-Mart only more clothes but they did have a toy section… And guess who was in charge of the toy department?…

Me. 🙂

I remember i did a huge stack (like a pyramid) of Teddy Ruxpin’s, took me almost 2 hours to create, Looked bloody wonderful… Was my boss impressed?.. Well, if he was, he didn’t say.
Sadly it didn’t last long.

I was at lunch when i heard a commotion.
A child had gone missing!!
The mother was frantic, all hysterical, shouting & crying.. poor thing.
My boss was flustered, getting worried by the minute… Salivating at the mouth

Me, i was more worried about my Teddy Ruxpin Pyramid which had seem to have lost shape… Some bloody kid had knocked it over,
I stood there looking at my creation gone wrong when suddenly, the Teddy Ruxpin pyramid (or what was left of it) started to move…
Turns out, the missing child also liked my pyramid and decided to hide in the middle part, only problem was, when he bumped a few on the inside, some outside ones fell and blocked the entrance.

The kid didn’t seen fazed and was enjoying breaking apart my pyramid but i decided to take him to the front desk and he was reunited with his relieved mum.

That was the end of my pyramid building days.
When my boss found out that my Teddy Ruxpin Pyramid was to blame… well… there was alot of finger pointing and shouting and, well…Teddy Ruxpin was confined to the shelves.

A Teddy Ruxpin for those who have never seen one…

Moving On

This mixtape was recorded on my sisters boom-box.
She had a boom-box, i had a walkman but when she wasn’t home, i would sneak in her room and record from the radio waiting for the bloody DJ to shut up and play music…
It was a real skill to get the full song with no talking DJ on the start or finish of the song.

1984 – LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back…. What a Year For Music

1984, One of the best years for music in my opinion… that, and 1987

I was 14 and in year 8 in High School.

When i wasn’t at school, i was spending most of my time next door.

My next door neighbours were like my second family.

Times spent swimming, laying in the sun listening to the radio, bike riding and kicking a football in the middle of the street.

Listening to the radio, mostly 2SM (Rock of the 80s), some great tracks graced the airwaves, passing many an hour.

Some of the rarer tracks are on this mixtape, some you may not remember, but have a listen….

You might find yourself going “Oh Yeah, I Remember this Track”

1981 – LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back…. 1981, What a Year.. Right?

Actually, I was 11, bout the only good thing in my life was my cat (Tikka) and my next door neighbors who i would frequently escape to..

My Cat Tikka  (RIP)

I was in Year 5 Primary and life was shit…

Bullied by asshole students (funny enough, who now want to be Facebook friends… go figure), prick teachers that didn’t get that i couldn’t sit still for 2 hours in some crappy assembly, off to the office again… sadly a vicious cycle.

The one thing that had saving grace, was my dads love for music… Some of the music was really good and for Christmas, a gift of music. (Thanks Dad)

A few years earlier, i got a gift of a Shoebox tape recorder and two tapes, one tape was the best of  ‘The Animals’ (think House of Rising Sun).
The second tape changed my life. It was a synthesizer tape called ‘The Electronic System’ by a bloke called ‘Dan Lacksman’ who in the 80s, became the man behind the outfit ‘Telex’ (think Moskow Diskow & Twist a Saint Tropez)

The Electronic System opened my eyes to Synthesizers and was a main inspiration to create this website..

That’s right folks, amongst the Tears, Bashing’s, Wanting to run away, this website is built on a simple tape that started around 1978 & continued into the 80s.. My Escape
Listening to that electronic tape took away the shit..for a little while..

Moving On

Like I said, my Dad had a pretty good taste in music and while he was at work, I created this Mixtape from an old tape he didn’t need (well he didn’t notice it missing)

TRACKLIST

02.  The Fixx – Stand Or Fall
03.  Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart
04.  Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart

07.  Cliff Richard – The Only Way Out
08.  Paul McCartney – Take It Away

NEIL PEART – DRUMMER FROM THE CANADIAN BAND 'RUSH' HAS DIED

Hello and Welcome Back… Sad News for Rush Fans

Drummer ‘Neil Peart’ from the Canadian Prog-Rock band ‘Rush’ has died.

He was 67 years young.

If you have never heard of the band ‘Rush’, then i suggest you start with the song that started my journey into this brilliant band.. ‘Tom Sawyer’

TOM SAWYER

Brilliant i hear you say… How?

The fact that this band sounds like that there’s at least 5 members when in reality, there’s only 3 band members.

The way, their songs can change pitch & tempo effortlessly while the lead singer (Geddy Lee) not only sings but plays all synths and bass.

Drummer (Neil Peart) had a drum kit that really made your eyes pop, a small swiveled chair was his office, surrounded by drums

He once was rated the best drummer in the world.

May he Rest in Peace.

Please take some time out and browse through these videos and see what the world (and Rush Fans) have lost today.
